Summer's over - I'm heading west

I left Lanesborough, MA. ( The Farm) on Saturday September 25th. The original plan was to leave Sunday the 26th but they were predicting more rain so I decided to leave a day early. I rode 317 miles and got into a heavy rain storm before I got to Hamburg, NY. so I started looking for a motel, ( N0 more tent camping ) I found a motel and they wanted $90.00. I asked why the price was so high and they said the Buffalo Bills were playing. I wasn't about to go back out and start riding again in the rain so I checked in.

It was still raining when I left in the morning and rode the rest of the way to Goshen, IN. 417 miles. I checked into the Motel 8 and then rode out to the fairgrounds. I was to be part of the parking crew at the LOW (Loners on Wheels) rally there. They put me to work right away parking rigs and by then the weather had turned cold. The heaviest clothing I had was a sweat shirt so it was hard to stay warm, especially riding around in the golf cart with no windshield. I went into the registration building every chance I got.

Glen Lane, the son of Edith Lane, the founder of Loners on Wheels.

This is one of our wine & cheese parties. Those LOWs know how to party!

Our pretty servers at dinner. You know I'd manage to take a picture of the pretty girls.

One of our nightly dinners. We had quite the turnout.

Here are some of the different chapter table decorations.

This the trailer of one of our members after a propane explosion in his rig. He had a leak and didn't know it and when he went to light his portable heater the propane fumes ignited. It blew all the windows out and made the sides bulge out also.

This is a picture taken of Dick (owner of the above trailer) when he got out of the hospital after an overnight stay.

The RV-MH Hall of Fame museum at Elkhart, IN. They have some really great old RVs as you can see from these pictures.

They had a " Miss Piggy" contest at the rally and here are some of the contestants. (Where do these people get this stuff????)

This is the winner. Don L. Isn't he a cutie.

I left the rally on Sunday morning and arrived at the motorhome at Show Low at Wednesday noon. 1765 miles in 3 1/2 days. I rode about 450 plus miles a day. I had been gone one day short of 4 months. I was so glad to get home that I kissed the motorhome. Judy took the picture.

We found a new restaurant in Concho after I got back so we had to try it out. It was great.

I decided to move my motorhome to face a different direction, so I had Ted dig out some big rocks that would have been in the way.

After I bought the other lot I put in the driveway and parking pads and trimmed the junipers. I had 11 piles of brush to get rid of so Judy & I started burning. All burned in 2 days.

I helped another friend of mine, Roy, put in his driveway before I left. We also trimmed junipers and put in an ocean container. He was smart, he left on Tuesday and let me finish the job.

It snowed 5 inches Tuesday night, and another 3 inches Wednesday night. I was out of there Thursday morning and headed to Yuma, but not before I got snowed on.

This shows me coming down the beautiful Salt River Canyon.

My first job when I got to the Slabs was to repaint the flag pole and put on a new rope.

Our generator failed to start, so Richard got his tool kit out and went to work on it.

I hooked up to the trash trailer and Bill, Stan and I went to Calipatria and picked up some pallets.

The old truck was glad to get back to warm weather after that snow.

A picture of the old guard shack put up in WW2 when the marine base, Camp Dunlap was here.

Solar Mike's, where everybody goes to get solar panels and batteries.

A Slab City flower pot.

This is the " Hot Tub" at the Slabs. Water temp is over 100 degrees in places.

Me getting a tank of water in Niland for the Slab LoW's kitchen.

Well, that was my trip to the east coast for the summer. I'm glad I went and I'm glad it's over. Thanks for sharing it with me.

It was fun following along, but we're glad you're back where you belong. If an area of the country is having a drought, they should have you come on your bike. You seem to bring on the rain. Welcome home!
